About Me
Hi, my name is Nastya Bedina. I’m a fourth-year Media and Design student at HSE University.
I am particularly interested in how cultural institutions operate from within—how their visual systems, spatial environments, and narratives shape the way they communicate with their audiences.

A WAY OF WORKING
My practice often begins with research and experimentation. I work with the structure of things, exploring how images, sounds, and materials can be transformed, reinterpreted, and brought into new contexts.
This approach has led me to projects in editorial design and cultural environments, where I explore how visual language can shape the way people experience and understand information.

PAPER SPEAKERSAn exploration of sound achieved by deconstructing a conventional speaker into a two-dimensional form. The voice coil and diaphragm are transformed into a flat spiral, which is printed onto paper using adhesive copper foil. When interacting with a permanent magnet, the spiral generates sound. Moving and rotating the magnet allows the volume and frequency response of the sound to be manipulated. The project examines how the geometry and dimensions of the spiral affect the resulting auditory experience.

EDITORIAL DESIGN / SOUND RESEARCH / DIGITAL ARCHIVE / EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC
Team: Anastasiia Bedina, Adelina Kadyrova, Sofia Shirenkova
My role: sound objects & experiments, editorial design, digital design
DESCRIPTION
How can we document an experience that happens only once?
Burelom is an independent media project dedicated to experimental music. Instead of documenting performances themselves, we focus on how listeners perceive and remember them.
APPROACH
Each month, we attend experimental music events and interview attendees, gathering their impressions, associations, and interpretations. These conversations form the basis of our printed publication. The project also explores sound through physical experiments, including paper speakers and a laser device that translates sound vibrations into Lissajous figures.

OUTCOME
Burelom evolved into a multi-format project combining a printed magazine, a digital archive, social media, and sound recordings. The second issue was accompanied by a CD featuring field recordings collected over three months.

LAYERED PRINT EXPERIMENTSAn exploration of the W1 graphic language through physical layering. Based on the grid-like structure of Unicode symbols, the experiment investigates how graphic modules interact when transferred onto different materials.Transparent printed films, plexiglass, and crumpled paper were layered and scanned from varying distances. By adjusting the distance between layers and the scanning surface, I experimented with image sharpness, depth, and visual overlap.
