Alan Aitmuratov

I’m Alan Aitmuratov, a 2D animator from Moscow and a fourth-year Animation Directing student at HSE Art and Design School. My favourite part of animation is the moment one form transforms into another. In a team, I build animatics, handle rough animation, and complete clean-up.
I animate metamorphoses.
What I do: animatics, rough animation, clean-up, and color fill. Currently, I am doing clean-up and color fill on Nikita Meshcheryakov’s film, «Tears in Rain.» I am looking for an opportunity in a studio that produces feature films, series, or music videos.
HOW I WORK
Animatic first, final second. I time the whole piece as an animatic, then redraw it shot by shot into the final. The drawing changes, but the timing remains the same.

I Am Everything
01 Challenge. Depict the entire life cycle in a single song—from birth to a nuclear blast—and frame the blast as a threshold, not an endpoint. Animated music video for Zetsubou P. Concept, storyboard, animatic, and animation are mine.
02 Idea. One continuous metamorphosis instead of cuts. A blast opens into an eye, the eye grows a snake, eyes sprout on stalks, the body turns inside out, and the heart becomes a skull. Later, a falling spark catches fire, and the fire turns into a fish.
03 Process. Every shot is initially rough-sketched in the animatic, timed to the music, and then redrawn as the final piece: black ink, cream line, one red.
04 Result. The full animatic is complete, and more than half of the final animation is ready. The remainder still exists as an animatic—here is one segment, from the drop falling into the fire to the skull exploding.

For a Handful of Ash
01 Challenge. Transform two objects—a pack of cigarettes and a box of matches—into characters and stage a Western duel between them: tension, combat, and atmosphere, all within 30 seconds.
02 Idea. Play the classic western by its own rules: the wide shot, the extreme close-up of the eyes, the bullet in slow motion. Only the actors are objects.
