From accidental discoveries to intentional design
Most creative processes leave something behind: test prints, technical errors, unexpected traces, and discarded ideas. We pay attention to these remnants.Vo-da is an independent creative studio specializing in graphics, print, and physical objects. We explore the potential of the unexpected, transforming overlooked materials and familiar forms into new visual work.
The Other Side of the Moon / printmaking, graphics, and printed objects
During linocut printing, ink can leave accidental marks on the protective paper beneath the press. These traces are typically considered by-products of the printing process.
What happens when a byproduct transforms into a project? We started to consider these accidental marks as independent graphic works, rather than unwanted traces.
The discovered graphics served as the foundation for a series of linocut prints, produced at the Vlipli print workshop. These graphics were then applied to T-shirts, shirts, accessories, and postcards. This resulting collection gives a new life to marks that were never intended to become finished images.
Europe / Photography, Visual Research
A 19-day journey through Europe turned into an opportunity to examine the intricate details of the urban environment. We were fascinated by what typically escapes a visitor’s notice—strange artifacts, overlooked details, and fleeting processes captured at unexpected moments.
Over nineteen days, we photographed urban landscapes, temporary installations, and scenes revealing unusual aspects of everyday surroundings.
The photographic series helped us clarify our interests. It reinforced the idea that continues to guide Vo-da: compelling visual material isn’t always something we create—sometimes, it’s something we observe.
Construction / 3D Printing, Objects
Temporary structures and standard building materials are familiar elements of the urban landscape. Their forms are functional, repetitive, and often overlooked. We wanted to reinterpret these familiar shapes by altering their scale, function, and material.
The series features five 3D-printed objects inspired by construction materials and temporary urban structures, such as brick-shaped coasters, corrugated forms, and a traffic-cone keychain.
The objects are printed on photoluminescent plastic that charges under ultraviolet light and glows in the dark. This acidic luminescence transforms familiar building elements into the image of an eerie, almost toxic city.
About
Vo-da is a creative studio founded by Anton Volnenko and Ulyana Danilevskaya in Moscow. The project began during our studies at the HSE Art and Design School, when we noticed how many interesting materials remained outside the final presentation of a project. We started collecting and exploring these materials. They eventually became the starting point for our studio.
Our practice spans graphic design, printmaking, photography, and three-dimensional experimentation. We welcome commissions and collaborations that involve graphic concepts, printed work, experimental objects, and unconventional materials. We prioritize decisive visual language, cultural resonance, and the freedom to experiment.vo-da.vercel.app
