SpyEye is a 3D character design project set in a dystopian science-fiction universe. It tells the story of a wandering hacker-virus who attempts to infiltrate interstellar space stations to uncover secrets hidden by the Galactic Government.

The project explores character design through visual storytelling, combining an unconventional silhouette, distinctive accessories, and a detailed, worn aesthetic to reflect the character’s rebellious personality and mysterious background.

The character’s gas mask allows him to survive and move through the vacuum of space, while the antenna mounted on his back helps him receive and maintain communication signals while traveling across the universe.

My primary goal as an artist was to convey the character’s rebellious personality and nomadic lifestyle through his visual presentation. I wanted his design to feel unconventional and slightly chaotic, reflecting someone who constantly travels, adapts to various environments, and lives outside established norms. Every element—from his oversized clothing and unusual accessories to the worn textures and improvised details—serves to tell his story and make his personality recognizable without requiring words.

The main prop is a portable computer designed to keep the character mobile and connected wherever they go. Equipped with a communication system, it allows them to access the depths of the internet, explore hidden networks, and uncover mysterious secrets scattered across the universe.

When designing the prop, I wanted it to reflect the character’s personality just as much as his appearance. The computer’s worn-out surface, scratches, and signs of use tell the story of a long and adventurous journey. I also customized it with character-related stickers, adding a personal touch that reflects SpyEye’s rebellious nature, individuality, and refusal to fit into conventional boundaries. It feels less like a standard piece of technology and more like an extension of the character himself.

Due to the character’s unusual anatomy and complex shape, creating clean topology was a challenging task. However, rather than viewing it as an obstacle, I approached it as an engaging technical challenge. I enjoyed finding solutions that preserved the character’s distinctive silhouette while ensuring the model remained clean, functional, and ready for further production.

When creating the textures, I adopted a realistic approach, focusing on detailed materials, natural surface imperfections, and subtle signs of wear to make the character feel more believable and grounded.
