Yugit — a brand of light fixtures made from materials sourced from Udmurtia’s factories. The flagship product (a lamp) unites two layers of regional heritage: the base is cast from slag by «Izstali,» the plates are made from glass cullet by the «Svet» plant, and the light shining through them paints the Udmurt forest, grasses, and snow onto the wall.
Izhevsk is known as the city of factories—weapons, steel, machinery. One can hardly take anything out of the city except a magnet, and the factories leave behind every day what no one needs—slag and broken glass. «Yugit» transforms this waste into lighting fixtures.
«Yugit, ” in Udmurt, means „light.“ In each panel of the luminaire, there is an etched design of Udmurt nature: you switch on the lamp—and a forest appears on the wall.
The mark is composed of strokes, as if drawn with light: a vertical line and a crossbar form the letter «Yu, ” an arc represents the lampshade, and three rays symbolize the light emanating from it. These same strokes exist in the graphic design: the rays are placed next to the plate or extend beyond the carrier’s edge. The color palette is drawn from the materials—orange enamel on the plates, metal rust, and dark slag. Everything is printed like a lithograph—with grain, uneven fills, and color overlays—so the carriers look handmade in the same workshop as the lamp.
Six plates — six Udmurt words: nyules — forest, vu — water, tolez — moon, kizili — stars, turyn — grass, lymy — snow. The design is cut into the glass, and the light projects it onto the wall larger and softer than it appears on the plate. The plate can be changed, and with it, the room transforms.
Flagship Program
«Rotunda» — a luminaire. Six arched panels are arranged in a ring within the slag base, housing a warm lamp inside. The form was inspired by the colonnade along the embankment in Izhevsk, but the lamp itself is intentionally modern; the factory material is recognized not by its appearance, but by the history recounted on its tag. You can assemble a «Rotunda» yourself during a master class: choose a design, transfer it to the panel, and take the luminaire home.
The carriers replicate the lamp’s structure. On the posters, the plate with the cutout design rests on a dark slag strip, and the inscription is printed in a staggered layout, like light scattered across a wall. The plate’s tag functions as a stencil: a potential buyer can hold it up to the lamp to see the design before purchasing. The packaging, the envelope for replacement plates, and the masterclass ticket are all constructed from the same arches, strips, and rays.
Posters
The yugyt.ru website is designed like a room filled with light. The cursor acts like a lamp: where it lands, the dark screen brightens and patterns on the plates emerge. Tags illuminate upon hover, and the menu opens out of a circle of light originating from the cursor’s position. In the mobile version, the light activates upon scrolling.
