The zine is divided into two conceptual blocks: the history of Route 66 and an exploration of the visual culture surrounding the automobile in the United States. The main thread of the historical narrative is split into four chapters: genesis, peak, decline, and conclusion. Each section unpacks a specific stage in the highway’s evolution. Between the chapters are three vibrant modules: signs, motels, and the automobile as a symbol of personal freedom.
