Description:
A cable-stayed bridge is a bridge featuring a cable-supported structure. Key defining elements of such a structure include pylons—vertical supports rising above the roadway; stay cables—cables tensioned between the pylon and the road deck; and the stiffening girder—the roadway itself, which rests on the stay cables. The difference from suspension bridges is that in a suspension bridge, the main deck sags between two towers, and the road deck is hung from it using vertical suspenders. The load is transferred to the anchors.
