PORTFOLIO 2026
Marie Shatalova’s animation portfiolio
Hi! My name is Marie Shatalova and I am a 2D animator!

I love creating emotionally evocative animated films!
I enjoy developing lyrical projects centered on memories, feelings of nostalgia, and the emotions we experience toward our loved ones. In my work, I pay close attention to crafting the appropriate atmosphere to match the film’s mood.
I am open to collaborating with producers, animators, musicians, and sound designers. I’d love to experiment, try new things, and make something truly great with you!
Let’s dive in :)
Here is something I can do:
— Story and concept development
— Character concept art
— Digital frame-by-frame/stop-motion animation
— Compositing
MY PROJECTS
Short Films
«DAISES»
— about missing our loved ones and finding light in the everyday

My goal was to convey the feeling of emptiness one experiences after a significant other leaves. Here, I used color to express how much the main character misses his girlfriend and associates everything around him with her.

«WHERE DOES THE BEAR LIVE?»
— on children’s perceptions of life, courageous knights, and giant formidable dragons
This is a sad story about a little boy whose parents are about to divorce. It causes him to retreat into an imaginary world where he believes he can save his parents' marriage.

This project was created as a team effort. We aimed to express the coldness and estrangement within his family life, contrasting it with a bright, fantastical world. This tension is primarily built through the use of color.
«DEEP DOWN IN THE SIBERIAN MINE»
*documentary
— about a small Siberian town and its residents, dedicated to science

For this project, I employed a mixed-media technique—digital and stop-motion animation. I focused on the place’s calm atmosphere, striving to capture its serenity. Since the documentary format provided me with more creative freedom, the video does not follow a strict narrative; rather, it showcases recognizable fragments of the town’s life to emphasize its uniqueness.
«THE FIRST SNOW»
*ongoing project
— exploring passion for your work, nostalgia, and a touch of «Nutcracker»
This project tells the story of a former ballet dancer who had to quit due to an injury.I am building the entire film around atmosphere. Two different timelines, each with its own mood, gradually complement each other, expressing the character’s love of dance. One of the timelines depicts the character’s experience working in the theater, so I aim to convey the melancholy of her memories.

Music Video
«CONVENTIONAL SIGNS»
— about trying to quiet your inner voice and find stillness

I’ve made a video clip for an indie music band «Hvatit payasnichat’.»
I wanted to tell a complete story through the visuals while keeping the clip dynamic, moving with the music. I wanted to capture the feeling of anxiety and overwhelm that people today can hardly escape. A room full of TV screens is the central metaphorical image of the video, supported by the character’s run across the city—an endless run that can’t be stopped.
