In the HSE Poster Lab, we created posters for a jazz trio concert featuring Vyacheslav Gaivoronsky, Andrey Razin, and Pyotr Ivshin. The project consisted of two stages:
1. Selecting a photograph from a personal image library while listening to tracks.
I chose a picture of an exhibit from a show in Istanbul. The small figures sitting on the walls reminded me of a European courtyard where jazz musicians could perform.2. Working with tape and printed concert information on adhesive labels.
We had additional words that needed to be incorporated into the work. I was assigned the word «tempo.» I cut the letters on the adhesive label across the width, varying the size, removing parts from the middle, and sometimes leaving white space at the top and bottom, and sometimes not. This created a fragmentation where the letters resemble both piano keys and shards, which echoes the magnifying glass in the photograph. The first layer of tape creates a transparency that also references glass.Poster
