Concept
We are creating an ornamental language for the city—a language that helps people orient themselves and recognize their city. The motifs are based on Northern Russian painting. Each district has its own pattern, and through it, a person understands where they are, even before reading the name. The text explains that the ornamentation guides and sets the mood.

Alphabet
We are taking not the images, but the grammar from Northern Russian painting: the modules, rows, and space. From this, the city and its inhabitants create any medium, from a pointer to a children’s motif.

Problem
Cities are losing their identity. Signage, bus stops, and posters are created by different contractors and do not coalesce into a unified visual language. A person sees a collection of disparate signs and does not feel a sense of place. Regional tradition lives separately—in museums and on souvenirs—but not in the everyday environment.
Idea
Transform tradition into a working tool. Ornament becomes a system: it answers the questions «where am I?» and «whose city is this?» rather than merely decorating.
