About Me

post

I’m Marina Ustinovskaya, a multidisciplinary designer focused on expressive interfaces, websites, and visual communication. My experience includes product and communication design at Ozon, a major Russian technology company and online marketplace. I’ve also worked on communication projects at Redis Agency, a studio specializing in branding and marketing design, and Red Collar, a digital design and development studio creating websites and digital products.I use Claude and AI-assisted coding to build animated interfaces, interactive prototypes, and custom graphics tools.I’m looking to join a creative UI/UX studio where I can combine visual experimentation with product thinking.

My Projects

I’m interested in the intersection where a visual concept transforms into a functional utility. This could involve designing an identity system that reacts to sound or providing a more accessible starting point for a complex tool. These projects explore that connection through interfaces, visual systems, and code-based experimentation.

ACT

A media platform for motion design and VFXMy role: Platform structure, UX/UI, design system, and interface refinementProblem The design challenge was to organize visual research, projects, and references into a coherent media platform while capturing the experimental nature of motion design and VFX.Idea Make visual discovery the starting point, establishing clear connections between each piece of work, its context, and its creator. The interface would provide the content with a consistent structure and sufficient space to express its unique character.Solution I designed a categorized feed, project pages, and a creator directory for both desktop and mobile web. Large imagery carries the content, while expressive typography and vibrant controls establish the visual hierarchy. The process involved qualitative and quantitative audience research, developing a component system, and refining the design based on interface testing.Result A suite of desktop and mobile web interfaces featuring shared navigation and reusable components. The design seamlessly connects browsing, project context, and authorship within a single editorial system.

Tala

A B2B platform for generating video and media using node workflows and an AI agent. My role: Product audit, UX/UI design, design system development, and design validation in code.Problem The original interface placed model parameters and API settings before the user’s core task of creating media. The challenge was organizing these capabilities into a clear generation workflow.Idea Shift the experience to be centered around the creative task. A user begins with an idea and a prompt, then constructs a pipeline manually or prompts an AI agent for assistance.Solution After auditing the product and its competitors, I established the prompt as the primary input and grouped settings by node. I redesigned the canvas, inspector, and agent chat, alongside collections, templates, and other product sections. Error messages now clearly explain the issue and suggest the next step.Result A redesigned generation flow, supported by TALA.DS, featuring three token levels and approximately 150 components. I validated the designs in code, resolved issues related to states, contrast, and navigation, and integrated automated checks into CI.

Homigo

A connected journey for home exchange

A P2P service where travelers exchange homes directly.

My role: Product structure, UX/UI across platforms, design system, and communication materials.

Problem Homigo needed to provide a cohesive journey for users—from finding a home and sending an exchange request to communicating with another member across web and mobile interfaces.

Idea Treat the exchange as one continuous journey. Information about the home and its owner would support the decision-making process, with requests and conversations integrated into the same flow.

Solution I designed the user flows and interfaces for search, property cards, profiles, requests, chat, and settings. List and map views support different ways of exploring homes. A shared design system connects the web, mobile web, iOS, and Android designs, encompassing loading, empty, error, and success states.

Result A service design that covers the entire path from search to conversation, supported by reusable components and documented interface states. Social media materials extend this same visual language into the service’s communications.

Electric Lines

An identity that responds to music

Visual identity and a custom graphics editor for an electronic music band.

My Role: Visual concept, identity design, graphics, and AI-assisted coding.

Problem The design challenge was to translate the energy of Electric Lines’ music into a visual identity that could shift across different formats and compositions.

Idea A power surge became the central metaphor. The identity was conceived to behave like an electrical signal, featuring letterforms and graphics that could stretch, distort, and react to various inputs.

Solution I developed distorted typography, grainy imagery, and used acid green and purple accents within a black-and-white system. Through AI-assisted coding, I built a custom editor capable of generating and transforming graphics using music, camera input, and photographs. I applied these visual rules across posters, album covers, social media assets, and merchandise mockups.

Result A dynamic identity, supported by an interactive tool for creating further variations. The editor brings the graphic concept into action, while the applications demonstrate how its rules function across various formats.

Ozon

Design across products and communicationsSelected work from product and communication teams. My Role: Communication Designer, contributing to product interfaces and concepts.Problem My assignments spanned various communication and product contexts. Each required a solution tailored to its purpose and format, while adhering to Ozon’s visual language and team workflows.Concept I connected the visual messaging to the specific goals of each format. Product promotions needed to explain features, whereas community materials were designed to communicate topics, people, and events.Solution I developed promotional materials, landing page designs, and social content, and contributed to the communication design system. For product-related tasks, I developed interface proposals and tested hypotheses. I also worked on a new product concept under NDA, delivering the designs to the appropriate teams.Outcome Communication assets for both product and community initiatives, contributions to interface design, and a product concept ready for further development by other teams. The selected work demonstrates my impact across these diverse contexts.

My Approach

I start by understanding the task: what users need to accomplish, what might impede them, and what the product needs to communicate. I map out the main user flows and explore visual directions concurrently, allowing the interface’s structure and character to develop together.

I am drawn to concepts that can shape both the aesthetics and the functionality of a project. Typography, imagery, and motion help me build a distinct visual language, which I carry across screens, components, and interaction states. I aim for the details to feel cohesive, giving every project its own unique character.

I use Claude to translate ideas into code, from animated interfaces to custom graphics tools. Working with a prototype lets me explore timing, transitions, and responsiveness—then refine the design based on its actual behavior. This iterative experimentation is a critical part of how I develop and hone my concepts.
